Filtering Healthcare Data

In his keynote address at the recent NG Healthcare Summit, Gianrico Farrugia, CEO of the Mayo Clinic Florida, said it’s not that we don’t have enough data, we don’t have enough usable data…at least not yet.

Gianrico Farrugia, CEO, Mayo Clinic, Florida:
The fourth industrial revolution will change the way people use or consume healthcare”.

At the recent NG Healthcare Summit, Gianrico Farrugia, CEO of the Mayo Clinic Florida, said it’s not that healthcare doesn’t have enough data; it doesn’t have enough usable data…at least not yet.

Gianrico Farrugia, CEO, Mayo Clinic, Florida:
We as consumers don’t want to wait, right? We want to connect wherever we are, and we’ve already used the internet of things with our mobile devices and our wearable devices and our apps to track our health measures. But you all know – and some of you are in the field – that very few of these devices can meaningfully interact with our health system…at least not yet.  There’s a desperate need to develop better APIs but more importantly, to filter data.

Our problem is not a lack of data anymore; it’s spurious data points. Our problem is spurious data points that we have to filter out of the system while allowing relevant information to flow into the system…information flowing into the system from the home environment to inform us on medical decision making”.
