Retailers Get The Call To Go Mobile

In our latest GDS Video Snack, Shawna Ryan, Editor at Meet The Boss TV, asks retail executives what the most exciting yet biggest challenge they face in their industry in the upcoming year.

Gary Kazmer, General Manager of Global eCommerce for Crayola:
The most interesting thing I learned at the summit I think is really about mobile”.

Jeff Pearson, SVP eCommerce & Strategy of hhgreg:
“Mobile”

Carolyn Yapp, GM Global Customer Marketing Insights and Analytics:
“Mobile space”.

Nancy Greer Singley, Marketing Manager at BBVA Compass:
“Everything is focused on mobile”.

Time to stop in store and shop? Here in New York City everyone is on the go, and it’s calling on retailers to rethink the ways their customers want to shop – and the message their getting is loud and clear. More than 100 retail executives attended the GDS International NG Retail Summits both in the US and Europe in 2016 and all agreed –  it’s time to get connected.

Kit Hickey, Co-Founder & Head of Retail, Ministry of Supply:
I think that more than ever people are really looking towards that as the future and trying to figure it out”.

Gary Kazmer, General Manager of Global eCommerce for Crayola:
Some companies are seeing over a 50% transactions done on mobile”.

Half of transactions being done on mobile may sound like a lot, but when you consider that retail executives who attended our summits reported as much as 65% of the time customers spent on  their websites was done on a mobile or tablet, it makes sense why. And that number is only growing

Jeff Pearson, SVP eCommerce & Strategy of hhgreg:
The amount of visitors that are going through a mobile device is happening more rapidly than we would have thought. I believe this holiday season, I think it will go to 70-75%”.

Retail Execs told us the numbers are indications of a major shift in their industry – and with that shift comes a need to adapt, and fast.

Kit Hickey, Co-Founder & Head of Retail, Ministry of Supply:
I think one fundamental change in our industry is the overall change in shopping behavior”.

Jeff Pearson, SVP eCommerce & Strategy of hhgreg:
It’s both exciting and scary at the same time how quickly that’s happening”.

Kimberly Huff, Director, Attractions & Retail Division, Stratosphere Casino, Hotel, & Tower: “That’s changed quite a bit they can do a lot from their phone from their computers so why do they have to come in to see you?”

Jeff Pearson, SVP eCommerce & Strategy of hhgreg:
I think that they are ready to just receive information without feeling like you’re stalking them or doing something that’s too Big Brother”.

Kimberly Huff, Director, Attractions & Retail Division, Stratosphere Casino, Hotel, & Tower: “And we’re trying to cater to that and try to understand our customers and trying to provide an experience that’s really customized specialized and unique”.

Carolyn Yapp, GM Global Customer Marketing Insights and Analytics:
This digital revolution or disruption, whatever you call it, is something that I think we’re really trying to embrace and try to understand how to best connect with our customers in a way they want to be connected with”.

Gary Kazmer, General Manager of Global eCommerce for Crayola: |
If I can modify my painful mobile experience today we can really change conversion rates and grow our business”.
